Rent a calendar month
$2,824.40
| Per day | $92.86 |
| Per week | $650.00 |
| Per fortnight | $1,300.00 |
| Per calendar month | $2,824.40 |
| Per year | $33,892.86 |
Paying “4 weeks” ($2,600.00) is not the same as a calendar month ($2,824.40). A month is about 4.35 weeks, so the 4-week figure is $224.40 a month short, $2,692.86 over a year.
This uses the same method as Consumer Affairs Victoria's rent calculator: weekly rent ÷ 7 gives the daily rent, and a calendar month is the daily rent × 365 ÷ 12. Years are 365 days (leap years aren't counted).
Rounded to the cent. Your lease shows the amount and period you actually agreed to pay. Not legal, tax or financial advice. 🔒 Everything stays on your device.

How this is worked out
Every period is worked out from one daily rent. Weekly rent is divided by 7; a calendar month is that daily rent × 365 ÷ 12, and a fortnight is 14 days. Going the other way, monthly rent × 12 ÷ 365 gives the daily rent.
Worked example: $650 a week
| Period | Rent |
|---|---|
| Daily | $92.86 |
| Fortnightly | $1,300.00 |
| Calendar month | $2,824.40 |
| Year (365 days) | $33,892.86 |
A flat at $2,800 a calendar month works out to $644.38 a week, which is the number to compare with weekly listings.
Good to know
- Listings in Australia are nearly always weekly, while many people are paid monthly. Converting both to the same period before you compare stops a cheap-looking place surprising you.
- If your rent is due every 4 weeks rather than each calendar month, you make 13 payments a year, not 12, and the yearly total is the same as paying weekly.
- When rent goes up, convert the new weekly amount again: the monthly figure rises by about 4.35 times the weekly increase, not 4.

Questions people ask
How do I convert weekly rent to monthly rent?+
Divide the weekly rent by 7 to get the daily rent, then multiply by 365 and divide by 12. $500 a week is $2,172.62 a calendar month.
Why isn't monthly rent just 4 times the weekly rent?+
A year has 52 weeks and a bit, so a month is about 4.35 weeks. Four weeks' rent leaves out 2 or 3 days each month.
